118 | Multi-unit expertise in demand Taylor Construction has created a strong niche for itself, providing services to multi-residential developers. Taylor Construction Ltd T T Sue Russell BUILDING East Tamaki builders Taylor Construction is run by a close-knit team, led by owner Damien Taylor. Responsible for new business and fostering client relationships is Ben Irons. He says Taylor Construction has created a strong niche for itself, providing services to multi-residential developers and the like. “We’re in the building space of constructing multi units of any size and scale, working for medium to large-scale developers. We’ve worked hard to create the systems and scale that successful volume building demands and we take the whole project on through consenting, pricing, building to handing over the keys,” Ben explains. Today, Taylor Construction boasts a team of 50 professionals, across in-house builders, project management, site supervisors and an impressive list of subbies it can call on to input their skills and expertise. Acknowledging there’s been an element of luck, though tempering this with the belief that in business you make your own luck, Ben says the company has undertaken builds for developers who partner with Kainga Ora, in the social housing space. “We’ve also taken on work in the aged care industry, having undertaken significant development in Beachlands. “We see that demand from this quarter, with an aging population is always going to be there for us to get involved in.” The company has established a scholarship programme, providing a student from Sir Edmund Hillary College with the opportunity to gain an apprenticeship and help with start-up tools for on the job. “This has been such a worthwhile initiative for us. We’re all about seeing young people being given an opportunity and this scholarship programme fits perfectly with our culture and values.” This year, Porohu Hagai Noa is Taylor Construction’s scholarship recipient. The scholarship is designed to provide a worthy school student with the opportunity to grow skills and experience in the trade sector. Porohu will gain valuable experience on the tools and in the team working on a 57 unit development in Otara that Taylor Construction are principal contractor for. By offering a student the opportunity to go straight from school into a solid, supportive work environment, its a way for the company to contribute to the overall future good health of the construction sector. “We’re all about diversifying our workforce and what better place for Porohu to work than on a project such as this in the local community.” At the East Auckland Business Awards, held on 20th March, Taylor Construction were named a finalist in the ‘Excellence in Community Impact’ category, for their fundraising support in the Cyclone Gabrielle Appeal and the Scholarship Programme. “We contributed Tammy David’s pay to the appeal. Tammy is from George FM and worked with us for a week on our site in West Auckland. We also paid the rest of the teams wages into it, so overall we raised $10k.” Extending beyond Auckland’s reaches too has been an important strategic development for the company. Undertaking builds in Kerikeri and Whangarei in the social housing space will, Ben says, open up new opportunities in the future. “We’ll be close to building upward of 50 units in Northland and a lot of our clients are building in Palmerston North, Hawkes Bay, New Plymouth as well.” With a solid core of values, best articulated as Build Better, Build with Family, Build with Pride, Taylor Construction has positioned itself in the market well to capture further opportunities as these arise. “We’ve worked very hard on building strong relationships with our clients and delivering their project on time, to budget and with the highest possible quality.” “We’re in the building space of constructing multi-units of any size and scale, working for medium to large-scale developers.” For maintenance to major new developments We have a quality cost effective electrical solution for you. 0800 745 263 office@laneelect.co.nz laneelect.co.nz Each edition priority delivered to your door. . www.waterfordpress.co.nz/subscriptions . . . i i 03 983 5525 Stay informed; we work with business owners and decision-makers across all economic sectors, profiling their success. i ; i i i i - ll i , ili i .
