122 | Dobbyn Builders: Kowhai Falls Retail Centre T T Russell Fredric Dobbyn Builders making their mark Kowhai Falls’ 6500 square metre stage one building was completed in May last year. BUILDING Dobbyn Builders is in the making of a milestone as it progresses through the second stage of Warkworth’s four-stage Kowhai Falls retail development. The development will ultimately provide 15,0000 square meters of retail space and is being undertaken by Northlander Glen Inger, co-founder with Sir Stephen Tindall of The Warehouse Group. Kowhai Falls’ 6500 square metre stage one building completed May last year was built for The Warehouse Group and houses The Warehouse, Warehouse Stationery and Noel Leeming. As a business that embodies a commitment to efficiency and innovation, several key aspects of its design and construction were a perfect fit for Dobbyn Builders. It is the most energy efficient building The Warehouse Group has ever built and utilises LVL (laminated veneer lumber), glulam structural timber, high-spec insulation and solar panels. Its whole of life carbon footprint is expected to be 30% less than any other of the group’s buildings. Dobbyn Builders managing director Hamish Dobbyn says the company successfully completed the stage one building to an extremely tight time frame. “In exactly 12 months and one day we had the store open and trading, about six weeks early.” It is Dobbyn Builders largest single building along with the most energy efficient commercial building it has ever built, while the overall development is the largest the company has undertaken in its forty year history.
