Before starting his building company Green Build Projects, Jesse spent nearly a decade as a qualified boat builder. His experience includes building race yachts and carbon fibre components for super yachts and even working for Prada in the America’s Cup as part of the shore crew during the 2013 cup race in San Francisco. This background in boat building, where precision is paramount, has significantly influenced his approach to home building. “I think the team brings that accuracy and attention to detail to our builds,” says Jesse. Bringing its commitment to precision to every project, Green Build Projects is a crew of 20 skilled licensed builders specialising in architecturally designed new homes and commercial interior fit-outs throughout Auckland city and coast from Warkworth to Mangawhai. Jesse emphasises that the strength of Green Build Projects lies in its team. “A successful project is a team effort and I have a great team,” says Jesse. Local to Mangawhai, Jesse profiles a recent bespoke build at Moirs Point, Mangawhai Heads, a thermally efficient, modern family home overlooking the Mangawhai estuary. This 250sqm home across two levels is a three-bedroom, three-bathroom masterpiece on a sloping site that uses insulating concrete forms, aka Eco Blocks, to form its structure. “It was our first build using eco blocks from ICF Solutions,” says Jesse. “These are hollow polystyrene blocks and are pre-insulated, made from expanded polystyrene which replace conventional cement blocks and offer greater thermal properties and strength.” “They assemble like a Lego set. They don’t require cement mortar because they clip together, and blocks are stacked upon each other. They have a high R-value performance making for a warmer home, drastically improving its thermal efficiencies. It’s a much more time-efficient build too with much less on-site waste.” The home features an internal access garage, large balconies, seamless indoor-outdoor transitions with big opening sliders, and modern amenities. The exterior cladding combines cedar and Span Lock 450 iron cladding, ensuring durability and low maintenance in its coastal environment. Building the Compain-Reynolds home was not without its challenges. Cyclone Gabrielle caused a bank collapse during earthworks, but thanks to Green Build Projects’ own earthworks division, these setbacks were swiftly managed and resolved within a week. The Compain-Reynolds eco-block home was designed by Mercer and Mercer Architects Ltd of Auckland, an award-winning practice renowned for residential and commercial projects of note throughout the public and private sectors for more than 30 years. Lead architect Adam Mercer says the Moirs Point homeowners were returning to live in New Zealand from Fiji, so they sought an especially warm home. “This led directly to the Eco Block system which I’ve used several times within the Waikato, so am confident of its performance,” Adam says. “It’s a terrific site with great views captured through expansive glass upstairs, so the thought was to have a hyper-insulated downstairs and as hot air rises it would warm the upstairs while the downstairs is cosy and warm with less glass and super thick walls.” It was Adam’s first collaboration with Green Build Projects whom he described as having excellent attention to detail, good communication and an eye on design that made them a pleasure to work alongside. Registered Master Builders, Green Build Projects has been awarded for its commercial fit-outs in the recent past including for Kowtow retail premises in Newmarket and Faradays in Parnell. www.cge.co.nz SERVICING MANGAWHAI AND SURROUNDING AREAS Proudly supporting Green Build Projects
