CONTRACTING Hibiscus Contractors It’s been 44 years since former dairy farmer Linden Bawden established the Silverdale, Auckland, company Hibiscus Contractors, and both he and the company are still going strong. Linden still serves as managing director and he has his son Dean and Paul Wallace both working in the business which otherwise employs around 25 staff undertaking civil contracts mostly in sub-divisions, stabilistion and road construction. Hibiscus Contractors has clients that include private developers, city and district councils throughout the country, and it also operates a lime and cement stabilising division that for its own clients and as a stand-alone service. “We’ve got a comprehensive range of plant gathered over the years, and we service it in our own workshop at Silverdale where we employ our own mechanic and engineer to keep the fleet on the go,” Contracts Manager Paul Wallace says. “We’ve got a highly-experienced management team built up over our long years of service, and backed up by a comprehensive health and safety regime. “We’ve built our reputation on being safe, honest, professional, resourceful, focused and down-to-earth.” That claim is endorsed by the repeat business Hibiscus Contractors attracts, such as involvement in the multiple stages of the Millwater and Milldale developments at Silverdale, and The Landing sub-division at One Tree Point. The company is presently engaged on the civil works for Stage 6C of the Milldale Development, and it’s worked extensively for the likes of Fulton Hogan Land Deverlopment and the engineering company Woods. “It’s our ability to get the job done quickly and efficiently that keeps our services in demand,” Paul says. “We’ve got plenty of work on despite the recent slowdown, and though the market’s not very exciting we’re still fully occupied. “Also, the labour market has picked up as other companies feel the pinch and lay off staff, and we’ve lately been able to take on a couple of very skilled operators.” The big fleet of company-owned plant includes just about everything for the range of projects Hibiscus Contractors undertakes, ranging from diggers and dozers to trucks and transporters. The lime and cement stabilising division undertakes lime drying for fill material for clients all around the North Island. Hibiscus Contractors’ services include site clearing, bulk earthwork on large developments, stormwater and sanitary sewerage drainage, and road and right-of-way construction. Retaining walls, whether of timber, keystone or gabion baskets are another key part of the business, along with trenching and ducting service installations for telecommunications, gas, power and utilities. The company can also supply and install new water-mains and do the follow-up water testing, while the waste-water drainage operations extend to pipelines, manholes and pump stations. The laying of footpaths, cycleways and concrete driveways is standard fare for Hibiscus Contractors, which also performs stream works which involve the construction of fish passages and erosion mitigation. It also has a presence on farms where it has long experience in the building of tracks and races. “We pretty well do it all, and we do it well,” Paul says. www.enviro360.co.nz P: 09 435 0755 or 021 847 199 E: ben@enviro360.co.nz Proudly supporting Hibiscus Contractors
