T T Kelly Deeks Evolution Builders is marking 25 years in business on a high, with its architecturally designed ‘Builders Own Home’ taking out a Regional Gold Award at the House of the Year Auckland, Northland, and Coromandel competition. The Auckland company has built its reputation over the past quarter century on architecturally designed homes, complex renovations, strong relationships, and a team that turns ambitious ideas into buildable projects. Founded in 2001 by Craig Parker and Brent Varley, this pair of builders met while working together before deciding their different skill sets worked better side by side. Their complementary expertise has remained a key part of the company’s success, with Brent now focused on running the business while Craig continues to lead every major project. The business has also built a strong culture around its people, retaining experienced staff, developing apprentices, and maintaining long-standing relationships with subcontractors and professional partners. Many of Evolution’s team have built their careers with the company, with some having been part of the business for close to 20 years. This continuity, together with directly employed construction teams, gives Evolution greater control over quality, communications and project delivery. Evolution Builders has traditionally focused on architectural renovations and new builds, working closely with architects and winning much of its work through referrals and repeat clients. Its latest Master Builders House of the Year gold award-winning project provided an opportunity to showcase the craftsmanship and attention to detail that Evolution brings to its architectural projects. The 350sqm home draws on Scandinavian barn architecture, using a simple structure so more of the budget could go into high-level finishes. Cedar, brick, oak detailing, and a dramatic double height atrium give the home its character, while expansive doors connect the living areas with the pool. Evolution Builders have previously entered the Master Builders awards and won the Regional New Home over $2 million category, a craftsmanship award, a Gold Award, and a Top 100 Award. The latest Gold adds to the company’s track record, and they are planning to continue to enter properties into next year’s awards as the industry recognition is good for a high-end company. Behind the award-winning work is a focus on collaboration, problem solving, and client experience. Highly bespoke homes can present challenges that are not obvious during design, but Craig’s ability to work through those issues and make complex ideas buildable is a major strength.
