With a proud history of delivering beautifully crafted pools designed to fit perfectly on any section, Auckland-based Ultimate Pools continues to shine within the industry, with 2026 being no exception. At this year’s Swimming Pool and Spa Association of NZ (SPASANZ) awards, the company received 11 Gold Awards, adding to their record of over 100 awards since establishing seven years ago, an achievement General Manager Rainbow Devlin is very proud of. “We put the same care and attention into every pool we build, no matter its setting and budget, so to have our work recognised again by our peers is extremely heartening and a real testament to the team’s capabilities.” Their entry “Above the Ordinary” received the association’s Prefabricated Pool of the Year major award, showcasing exceptional design and construction capabilities. Nestled deep within a lush native bush setting, “Above the Ordinary” is an above-ground prefabricated composite pool, championing just what can be achieved when a pool is thoughtfully positioned and landscaped to blend seamlessly within its environment. “The pool sits on a sloping site and its owners wanted a pool that would offer respite and peace when the family came home from work. We had to take real care of the native bush setting the pool would be positioned within, and by choosing an above-ground placement it gave a seamless flow which felt closer to the tree canopy.” The result offered swimmers an immersive, floating sensation among the native trees and really showcased what could be achieved with exceptional care and attention to detail. And while the accolades and achievements speak for themselves, Rainbow says the journey isn’t over yet, with the pool now entered in the International Awards in August, held on the Gold Coast. Rainbow says the team has grown from its original three, to 25 staff across the retail store, the pool servicing division and the design, landscaping and installation teams. “The company was founded by Warren Wright who established the shop in Rosedale. Warren saw the need for self-cleaning fibreglass pools and went searching for a brand that could deliver on all fronts.” That brand, Compass Pools, delivered the highest possible quality and innovation and today the company installs these pools, imported from Newcastle, Australia, exclusively. “They are one of the few companies that offer a lifetime warranty and one of the other really big draw-cards is they have a special hydrostatic pressure release valve, known as the HydroPro™ system. This reduces rising groundwater pressure that can threaten to cause a pool to float up. It’s the best pressure release system available.” And while there’s a rhythmical seasonal element to business, Ultimate Pools also routinely looks after 1500 pools across the North Shore, keeping the team engaged all year round. Rainbow encourages people thinking about installing a pool to visit the Ultimate Pools website to research design and pricing and begin the conversation early. “Every pool we install begins with a visit to the site, to help clients see the potential options, and we put a lot of time and effort into ensuring we understand what they want, what their vision is for the space. It’s not just a pool, it’s the surrounds reflecting how they want to enjoy the pool environment.” Once a pool shape has been settled on, it takes about four months to ship it to New Zealand and Rainbow says this time is spent finalising the landscaping plan and obtaining consents.
