It’s given us a much stronger team and means we can take on bigger and more complicated commercial projects.” Air Mc is taking on larger, more technically demanding HVAC and refrigeration projects while retaining the responsive service that has driven its growth. Based in Albany, Auckland, the business is owned and run by Jake McGregor and Emma Davies, providing HVAC, refrigeration and air-conditioning services spanning residential and commercial work. As the business has grown, it has strengthened its capability by bringing people into specialist roles rather than expecting a small team to cover every aspect of a project. Service management, project management, estimating and quantity surveying support now sit alongside its technical expertise. “We’ve brought in people with experience in specific areas rather than trying to do everything ourselves. It’s given us a much stronger team and means we can take on bigger and more complicated commercial projects,” Emma says. The scale of that work is reflected in projects such as Omana Apartments, Reiputa Apartments and Maki Centre Westgate, which required detailed planning and coordination. Projects of this size have provided practical opportunities to refine its systems and build the team needed to manage more complex work. “These have definitely been three of the bigger ones for us. They were significant because of their size and the amount of planning and coordination involved.” The business has not moved away from its residential and smaller commercial work as its project capability has developed. Instead, it has built a broader team that allows different parts of the business to operate alongside one another. That balance is reflected in Air Mc’s service. Whether the job involves a single heat pump in a home or a large commercial installation, the company aims to provide the same level of care and communication. “We don’t cut corners and we genuinely care about doing a good job. It doesn’t matter whether it’s one heat pump in someone’s home or a large commercial project, the customer should get the same level of service from us.” Service and maintenance is an important part of Air Mc, enabling the business to build long-term relationships with its customers. “We look after everything from residential through to commercial HVAC and refrigeration systems. For us, it’s about providing ongoing support and making sure our customers know they can come back to us for servicing, maintenance, repairs or future projects. “We have residential and commercial customers who have been with us for many years, and a lot of our new work comes through repeat business, recommendations and introductions. We really value those longterm relationships, and they have played an important part in Air Mc’s growth.” Building the team has included bringing in experienced people while developing apprentices and younger technicians within the business. The aim is to retain and pass on technical knowledge as Air Mc takes on more sophisticated work. Over the next two to five years, the business sees further opportunity in larger commercial HVAC and refrigeration projects, alongside its service and maintenance work. Residential customers will remain part of the mix. “For us, it’s about continuing to grow across all areas of the business, building on the large and technically complex projects we’re already delivering, while making sure our residential customers continue to receive the same level of service and attention.”
