Richard, who describes himself as a provincial kid, comes from a long career in the banking indus- try and was appointed to his role late last year. Along with the Barrhill Chertsey Irrigation (BCI) board, he oversees infrastructure that provides irrigation to its farmer shareholders over 20,000ha of highly productive farm land, sourced from the Rakaia River. Richard grew up on a Canterbury sheep farm and his career included working in rural banking.
