Milne Building Contractors is currently working on a variety of projects including a 632 stall and calving barn, a 90 bail rotary dairy shed and silage and feed pads demonstrating the versatility of the company. An important part of the success of the business is that the Milnes are small-scale farmers themselves so have a good understanding of the needs of their customers. They live on a seven-hectare farmlet and run 300 ewes in conjunction with their son Nigel’s 24ha farm at Mable Bush. Neil, Carolyn, Greg and wife Lana all own a 16ha block at Rakahouka. The family business is extensive and also includes Omega Aluminium, a window ware distribution company that supplies made to measure curtain tracks and blinds to Southland and Otago retailers. The Milnes also own the agency for Southland and Otago for Bowranda outdoor roofs, which sees Greg and Neil travelling around installing Bowranda products for customers. The family team is rounded out by Nigel’s wife Ange, who helps with the farm, Lana, who manages Omega Aluminium, and Carolyn who works on the business financials and is involved in the farm as well. “With all our families living in rural areas we certainly have an understanding of clients’ needs.
