That was the gap that we identified in the market. We’re results driven, so we’re fully accountable to the customer, whether it’s through Sureyield™ or the traditional delivery service model. We keep a budget for the customer, we keep track of all inputs that go on crops and farms, we do crop rotations and nutrient budgets and set targets for the customer.” While head office is based in Ashburton, stores have also been established in Oamaru, Cromwell, Gore and Riversdale, enabling staff to operate in North, Mid and South Canterbury, North and Central Otago and Southland. As well as a service base for the store and agronomy staff, the stores serve as a holding site for product that is sold to customers or retailers. Every week Catalyst Performance Agronomy staff are on farm looking at crops, organising contractors, or making recommendations for inputs, to deliver a professional, high level of service, ensuring the customers get results. “The agreement with the farmer is that we will lift pastoral performance working within a budget and on the back of that they have the opportunity to buy product from us – chemicals, all different type of seed and fertiliser. “We have a tiered service offering. Some customers just want us to come out and do a farm walk, make an assessment on their pastures and crops, and give them some advice. Generally they still buy our product. Others want a really intense level of advice, and some want us to do the executional level as well — organising all parties to manage the agronomic component of their farm. Or it could be that we have a client who doesn’t want anything, except the product and that’s why we have retained Wholesale Seeds as a minor brand.” Patrick has no hesitation in saying the success of the business stems from the people. A young business; the average age is 32. “Our people are highly motivated, very passionate about the strategy and the industry, and they all get rewarded on performance accordingly. It’s about quality of opportunity as opposed to quality of outcome. “All staff have equal opportunity, they are all rewarded accordingly and they are all very passionate about what they do. “That all transfers to the service delivered to the customer.” CATALYST PERFORMANCE AGRONOMY AND
