Long-term relationships are the key Technologies are continually evolving and the team at Robson Environmental Services ensures they remain abreast of new developments. Sue Russell Canterbury waste-disposal business Robson Environmental Services was established in 2001 by Murray Robson. Working with Murray are his two sons, Justin and Keiran. Justin says one of the key reasons the business has thrived and grown is the fact that it is a familyrun entity and that customers know they are dealing with the owners of the business directly. “I think that when you are growing a company, establishing long-term relationships with key clients is an important element and this is where owning and operating the business as we do, our customers know they are going to get honest, quality service, because our reputation is on the line and that matters.” The company’s motto :You Fill, I Empty” adequately describes the scope of work the team undertake. “We’ll basically go anywhere, within reason, to meet the needs of our customers and we’ll take on any size job as well.” Based in South Hornby, Christchurch the company’s 17 septic waste removal trucks extend over a large chunk of Canterbury and with the incorporation of ‘Charlies Takeaways, Septic Tank Cleaning and Removal Services, that footprint extend through to Ashburton, Rangitata, Sheffield, Rakaia and Darfield. While the main depot is in Hornby, a second depot in Rakaia makes the work logistically possible. Following the Canterbury earthquakes over a decade ago, demand for their services increased markedly. Admitting, working in the industry wouldn’t be everyone’s cup of tea, Justin says the projects and regular work they undertake are vital activities, ensuring the health and safety of customers and enabling them to enjoy living in rural and semi-rural environments. “We’ve got a great team of drivers and operators now and given the nature of our work, there is always a steady demand for our range of services.” These are broad, including septic tank emptying and cleaning, emptying grease traps, supply and fitting of sewage pumps, emptying, cleaning and filling of horse swimming pools, management of factory waste and transportation of liquid bio solids, to name a few. Normal business hours extend over 5 ½ days, however there are always staff and machinery oncall to deal with waste issues as these arise. Maintaining trucks to meet the demanding work and conditions they operate in is an important element of the business and when Business Rural South spoke with Justin a septic truck had been ordered. A considerable amount of work comes from the life-style sector with demand for septic tank emptying and cleaning. Technologies are continually evolving and the team at Robson Environmental Services ensures they remain abreast of new developments. “It is a competitive industry we operate in, but the fact that we’ve been around now so long and have gathered a great team around us, has placed us in a very strong position.” Justin says that after so long in the industry he thinks the company has grown to a good size. Training up new drivers with the equipment and processes is an important function too. “We’re operating expensive important • Field service technicians available • Servicing industrial & mobile applications • Extensive workshop facilities in both locations • In house test facilities Specialising in Hydraulics since 1973 - www.martinhydraulics.co.nz CHRISTCHURCH - 03 344 0307 sales@martinhydraulics.co.nz Workshop & Repairs nigel@martinhydraulics.co.nz ASHBURTON - 03 308 9778 Ali - 0275 301 276 alison@martinbennett.co.nz • 24/7 Mobile hose service • Full engineering workshop – machining & welding • Full system care programs equipment so we put a log of emphasis on ensuring our team know how to best operate the gear. We’re operating expensive important equipment so we put a log of emphasis on ensuring our team know how to best operate the gear.”
