80 | RURAL SERVICES »Leo Dunne Ltd Business as usual Leo Dunne Ltd provides a range of services including engineering repairs, effluent plant installation, workshop and mobile repairs of pumps, irrigators, platforms and dairy shed and yard work. Karen Phelps Operating in the Amuri basin for over 40 years, Leo Dunne Limited has entered an exciting new phase. The company has been purchased by long-term staff member and qualified diesel mechanic Josh Pitt and local dairy farmer Wendy Croft. Wendy brings a background in farming (she is an equity partner in a local dairy farm with her husband Ben Croft), business and administration skills to the operation. For customers it’s business as usual but with improvements, says Wendy. For example a cloudbased system has hugely increased the efficiencies of operation, with staff able to complete paperwork on sites via a tablet. “The system essentially allows staff to complete essential admin work anytime, anywhere, and customers can enjoy increased accuracy and a more rapid response regarding their jobs,” explains Wendy. “It also allows the health and safety aspects to be digitally checked off onsite.” Based in Culverden Leo Dunne Limited provides a range of services and supplies for its customers including agricultural machinery repairs and maintenance, engineering repairs, fabrication and customised solutions, effluent plant installation, reconditioning and system upgrades, workshop and mobile repairs of pumps, irrigators, platforms and dairy shed and yard work. It can design, supply product and oversee the installation of new or upgraded effluent systems and offers an obligationfree discussion followed by the provision of a competitive quote for plant and associated costs. The Leo Dunne workshop has the capability to make hydraulic hoses up to 6000 psi and has a mobile pivot gearbox and tyre service for punctures. Leo Dunne also has a retail store and stocks a wide range of parts including bearings and housings, ag chain, A, B & C section belts, hose and pipe fittings, oil, clamps, pins, nuts, bolts and washers. The company has a dedicated service technician to repair a wide variety of small engines from chainsaws to ride-on lawnmowers. Wendy says that Leo Dunne Limited prides itself on stocking reliable brands so it can stand by everything it sells. It is a certified dealer for Yardmaster Pumps and agents for Pluck’s Dairy Effluent Systems, Enzed, Total Lubricants, Sparex and the full Stihl range including chainsaws, Stihl chains and bars for chainsaws, hedge trimmers, brush cutters, water blasters and vacuum cleaners. Wendy says Leo Dunne Limited can get in whatever customers need and offers loan units to ensure keep customers’ plant up and running in the meantime. “It’s important for our farmers to keep going,” says Wendy. “For example while a pump is away for repair a loan pump means the farmer can relax and carry on with their usual business. It might be a loan effluent stirrer, backing gate motor, pivot gearbox or something else. We have a range of loan units available specific for certain jobs.” Wendy says a regular service programme is important to ensure farmers’ equipment is always up to the job. Leo Dunne provides such programmes as well as a seven-day emergency call out service. All services offered by Leo Dunne are backed up by the expertise of the Leo Dunne team, which boasts a qualified mechanic and engineer, with many years of skills and experience. She says Leo Dunne is an avid supporter of the local community and utilises the services of local subcontractors where possible. It also enjoys supporting local groups and sponsors the High School Old Boys Rugby team in Christchurch and recently donated a Stihl chainsaw to an auction for the local Lion’s Club branch. “We enjoy a lot of loyal local support so it’s good to give back,” says Wendy. “Josh and I look forward to continuing to add value to our customers’ farming operations.” Keeping your people and production looked after totaloilnz.co.nz
