They were also one of the earliest breeds to be established in New Zealand, arriving in the 1850s. They’re smaller than most commercial beef breeds, and they also have the thickest hides of any cattle breed, giving them high parasite resistance. Because of their docility they were historically the preferred breed for oxen, back in the days when these were the main haulers of commercial transport.
