Karen Phelps Family-owned company CP Lime has established itself as pioneers in improving soil health and animal nutrition via its palletised products. “Our pellets are unique in the way they are manufactured making them very cost effective,” says Scott Pascoe, director of CP Lime. With a background in farming, Scott and wife Jan set up their own transport, spreading and bulk cartage business in the 1990s, later also diversifying into quarrying including lime. This led to the couple seeking a better lime product solution and developing Optimise pelletised limebased fertiliser, setting up CP Limes in 2000. “We recognised that traditional ag lime and nutrients were not staying where farmers applied them. With New Zealand being a windy country these materials would often drift onto neighbouring properties or leach into waterways, resulting in wasted time and money,” explains Scott. Optimise has been designed to spread evenly, remain in place, break down readily and minimise environmental impact. The ultra-fine lime particles, crushed to an average of 70 microns, are pressed into pellets for easier transport and application. Scott says this process maximises surface area and accelerates the effect on soil pH and structure. According to company data, trial work demonstrates a change in pH averaging 0.2 per 250kg/Ha, with results visible within six to 12 weeks under the right conditions. Scott says the concentrated nature of the pellets means farmers use significantly less product compared to traditional agricultural lime - up to 10 times less - while achieving the same or better results. With reduced volume, fewer trucks are required for transport, lowering both financial and environmental costs. CP Lime quotes in hectares rather than tonnes because of this efficiency, with many farmers reportedly saving 50% by switching from conventional ag lime, says Scott. RURAL SERVICES » CP Lime Solutions - Optimise Building on the success of Optimise, CP Lime developed Vitalise, a pelletised mineral supplement specifically for animal health. This product delivers calcium, magnesium and trace elements to livestock in an effective and palatable form. “Calcium is vital for animal health and development. As a significant mineral in the body, calcium helps circulate blood, move muscles and release hormones. It influences production, reproduction and feed conversion efficiency,” says Scott. The company’s popular Vitalise CalMag combines magnesium and ultra-fine lime to support animal health and reduce the occurrence of milk fever in dairy herds. Scott says that CP Lime is set to launch another product under the Vitalise range at the end of March, specifically aimed at the sheep and beef industry. All CP Lime products are manufactured in New Zealand and are AsureQuality certified and biologically friendly. Scott says natural ingredients in their raw state are used and micronized to enhance release and availability. Products can be supplied with organic certification. Scott says the versatility of CP Lime’s products makes them suitable for a wide range of agricultural applications. Optimise is used by pastoral, arable, horticultural and viticultural operations throughout New Zealand while Vitalise can be customised to include various trace elements, phosphorus, ionophores, toxin binders and even seaweed, depending on specific livestock needs. He says that CP Lime’s approach represents a significant shift in fertiliser technology. “At CP Lime we have a real passion for improving New Zealand farming practices and by focusing on efficiency and effectiveness rather than bulk application, we have created products that not only improve farm productivity but also help farmers meet growing concerns about environmental impact and sustainability. Our products can be ordered through all the usual rural retailers.” 03 525 9843 | www.sollys.co.nz For all your Transport and Logistics requirements Freight | Storage | Bulk Cartage Livestock | Stock Feed | Fertiliser
