Kelly Deeks As farming practices evolve, so does Outram Contracting, a trusted name in agricultural services across the Taieri Plains. With more than two decades of experience working with local farmers, Outram Contracting has recently introduced a liquid urea mixed with N Boost from Donaghys through Agrispray and Equipment creating a solution aimed at enhancing crop and pasture growth while optimising fertiliser use. The recent investment in a mixing station was initially intended for blending minerals and chemicals, particularly for fodder beet sprays, then recognising a gap in the market, Outram Contracting owners Ken and Barbara Cuthill decided to use the facility to mix and dilute urea as well. This method offers several advantages, including improved absorption, faster plant uptake, and a more efficient application process. “This time of year, farmers are looking for ways to maximise growth while using less product,” Ken says. “With our liquid urea mix, they’re applying less than half the amount of traditional urea, and we don’t have to wait for rain to put it on.” Ken has experimented with liquid urea and N Boost on his own crops and pastures, and says the results speak for themselves. “It’s like applying regular urea, but in a more effective form. I tested it on my own crops first to ensure it worked, and I’ve definitely seen increased growth.” Despite the promising results, convincing farmers to adopt new methods can be challenging. “Many are hesitant about change, but they do appreciate good results. Once they see the benefits firsthand, they’re more likely to come on board.” Outram Contracting’s specialised mixing tank allows Ken and Barbara to create custom fertiliser blends tailored to the needs of local farmers. “We wanted to give farmers the opportunity to try something new, and so far, the feedback has been positive.” Outram Contracting uses Tabula which Barbara says is an essential tool these days to provide proof of application, job management systems, and certainty for both farmers and contractors. Outram Contracting has built a strong reputation through more than 20 years of dedicated service. The company started from scratch, relying solely on word-of-mouth recommendations to build its customer base. Today, it works with many long-standing clients, some of whom have been with the business since its inception. “We’re now at the end of our 21st season and our first big clients are still with us.
