80 | Bespoke nutrient solutions to farmers Mainfert is an independent and locally owned company employing dedicated representatives covering the country. Karen Phelps With 35 years of industry experience under its belt, fertiliser company Mainfert has established its point of difference on providing bespoke nutrient solutions to farmers. “We make blends according to what the particular paddock, farm and crop needs,” says Dean White, Director and Senior Nutrient Advisor for Mainfert. Operating across Canterbury, Nelson, Marlborough and the West Coast, the company was formerly known as Mainland Minerals until a rebranding in mid 2020. Its approach centres on balancing the three key parameters of soil - chemical, biological, and physical - to create an efficient, working soil system. Dean says the experience in the Mainfert team sets it apart. Personal service is the key. Mainfert is an independent and locally owned company employing dedicated representatives covering the country. “We like to think of ourselves as providing solutions to a whole range of challenges facing today’s primary producers. There is no ‘silver bullet’ product out there. We provide good solid advice based on research and experience. Our people literally dig deeper with clients, using a spade to assess rooting depth, worm activity and soil structure. There are more grey hairs around our team than black hairs,” he jokes. “This experience translates into better outcomes for clients across dairy, sheep and beef, arable, horticultural and viticultural sectors.” The company’s process begins with farm visits to discuss current fertiliser programmes, conduct visual soil assessments and take samples for testing. Once results are analysed, Mainfert’s nutrient advisors prepare recommendations and quotes tailored to specific areas of the farm and the current nutrient status. Dean says this level of customisation ensures farmers receive precisely what they need rather than standardised products. As Mainfert imports the majority of its products this means choice and flexibility from the best in the world in selecting the right solutions for each client, says Dean. The company specialises in sustainable, high-analysis, long-term nutrients, which Dean says Mainfert believes give farmers better value by reducing the risk of leaching and nutrients becoming locked up in the soil. The product range includes fine particle fertiliser, which Dean says has been described by soil scientist Dr Gordon Rajendram as the most efficient method of fertiliser and trace element application in New Zealand. RURAL SERVICES » Mainfert Mainfert also offers granular customised blends, nitrogen solutions, bio-stimulants and animal health products like multi-mineral licks. Dean says the results speak for themselves, with clients reporting dramatic improvements in soil structure, rooting depth and biological activity. “Mainfert’s philosophy is that above-ground results are simply a consequence of getting the below-ground system working correctly.” Rather than just focusing solely on traditional farming methods, Mainfert works with various farming systems from conventional to regenerative and biological approaches. Dean says this adaptability allows the company to meet a range of farming needs. He says Mainfert is experiencing continual growth: “But we’re mindful of not growing too fast so we can continue to service our clients to the very high level they have come to expect.” ARTIN W W AKEFIELD LTD Level 1, 26 Canon Street, Timaru • 03 687 7122 • Fax: 03 684 8558 • reception@martinwakefield.co.nz • www.martinwakefield.co.nz ACCOUNTING SERVICES RURAL BUSINESS SERVICES Benchmarking • Bookkeeping / accounting • Budgeting • Business Start-up • Financing • Cash Flow Forecasting • Financial Planning • Monitored Business Performance • Office Duties • Payroll Services • Portfolio Management • Software Solutions • Strategic Planning WE WORK WITH Proud to support Mainfert Ltd FERTILISER SPREADING | FARM MAPPING GPS TRACKING | VARIABLE RATE SPREADING LIVESTOCK CARTAGE | DAILY FREIGHT CONCRETE SUPPLIES | GRAIN CARTAGE SHINGLE SUPPLIES | FERTILISER SUPPLIES Leeston: 03 3248 070 | Dunsandel: 03 3254 039 reception@ellesmere.co.nz
