Japie is the founder and managing director of Bay of Plenty agricultural contracting specialist Jordaan Contracting Ltd (JCL). Japie grew up on a 2000 hectare farm in the Free State, South Africa, where he and his wife Heidi managed a 613 hectare cattle and sheep fam- ily farm. They also operated a contract harvesting business, running up to five combine harvesters. In 2001, the couple made the bold and chal- lenging decision to follow Heidi’s parents lead and immigrate to New Zealand. Japie and Heidi were initially employed as managers on a large dry stock farm in Dargaville before taking on a managers role on a dairy farm in Stratford. The couple eventually relocated to the Bay of Plenty, where Japie worked as an Operations Man- ager for a contracting business, before establishing JCL Contracting in 2008. Over the last 12 years Japie has continued to grow the family business, building a strong team while providing the best service to his farmers and forging JCL’s reputation for reliability. “My farmers are my business. Without the sup- port of my farmers, I couldn’t run my business and I am really thankful for the trust they place in us to do a great job reliably and honestly. “Agriculture is New Zealand’s largest industry and an important part of our history and culture. We aim to provide farmers with the best service to match their needs. By offering flexible services, the latest technology, top machinery and skilled drivers we get the job done efficiently.” Based in the small village of Paengaroa 10 kilometres from Te Puke and 30 kilometres from Tauranga, JCL services the Bay of Plenty – Katikati to Whakatane to Rotorua to Tauranga and every- where in between. JCL’s broad range of agricultural work includes grass and maize silage, cultivation, earthworks, and feed supplements. “From mowing through to baling and transporta- tion we make high quality grass silage bales with excellent fermentation.” says Japie. “We strive to provide the best quality crops for our farmers” Equipped with the latest technology, JCL’s tractor fleet includes six Case IH tractors, four John Deere and four Fendt tractors.
