Bernadette Cooney RURAL SERVICES » Tulloch Contracting Ltd Since its establishment in 1988, Tulloch Contracting Ltd has been a cornerstone of agricultural support in the Wairarapa region, offering top quality agricultural contracting services to local farmers from Masterton to Martinborough. Founder Andrew Tulloch revived the family tradition of contracting, which began in the 1940s with his grandfather’s dairy farming and contracting ventures. After a period during which the family shifted focus to machinery importation, establishing Tulloch Farm Machinery company - Andrew reestablished the agricultural contracting business. Through its close contact with Tulloch Farm Machinery, Andrew’s contracting business benefits from the development of new equipment, which in turn benefits their rural clients. The team at Tulloch Contracting Ltd comprises about nine core employees, expanding to up to 15 during peak seasons to meet the increased demand. Andrew has appointed shareholder in the business, Arron Cook, as company manager since 2017, ensuring continuity and a vested interest in the company’s success. Their Cornwall Road, Masterton office is managed by Tracey Gruiters. Leveraging the latest technologies and their depth of local knowledge, Tulloch Contracting Ltd provide a wide array of services to the rural sector. This includes cultivation and tillage to prepare the land, direct drill seed sowing both Tyne or Disc drill, silage and baleage production using round, square or tube wrap, and hay and grain harvesting such as cereals, maize, and specialty seeds. Animal feed and supplements is a significant growth area for Tulloch Contracting says Andrew, producing calf meals and grain products, using locally sourced whole grains, and sold primarily in 25 kg or 500 kg bags. “This service starts our season a bit earlier and keeps our labour busy when things are quieter,” says Andrew, “And by utilising locally grown products, we’re supporting the regional economy and promoting sustainability.” The company offers services such as mobile silage bagging and strip tilling for maize, providing farmers with efficient and effective solutions for feed storage and crop production. “We provide mobile silage bagging, including silage tubes which considerably lowers product waste.” “We are also doing a few silage stacks now for drought reserves for sheep and beef areas, aiding their resilience,” says Andrew. Tulloch Contracting Ltd serves a diverse range of farming operations, including dairy sharemilkers and sheep and beef farmers. “We serve a diverse customer base. We do quite a few brassica crops for sheep and beef and re-grassing, beet and maize planting, silage and baling, supplements, and cartage.” “We value our customer association and communication with them; we do our utmost to give the result that they require to make them money,” says Andrew. Running a group of truck and trailers and crane truck for drill feeding, Tulloch Contracting Ltd are well equipped and well experienced says Andrew, emphasising the importance of trust and communication with local customers. With a longstanding commitment to quality work and customer satisfaction, Tulloch Contracting Ltd continues to be a trusted partner for farmers in the Wairarapa region, adapting to the evolving needs of the agricultural sector while honouring its family- farming heritage.
