Business Rural North Autumn 2026

| 65 RURAL PEOPLE » Kelso Genetics Kelso Genetics is based on the Bibby family farm at Lunesdale. PhenR provides critical data to identify naturally resistant animals, reducing the need for chemical treatments, improving stock value and supporting sustainable parasite management. “It helps provide us with the information for our breeding values and indexes with regards to parasite resistance. It allows Kelso to make more informed decisions and gives our clients valuable insight when selecting rams,” explains Matt. Kelso Genetics also participates in the Beef+Lamb Cool Sheep® Programme, which uses AgResearch’s portable accumulation chambers to measure methane emissions in sheep. PAC data, combined with genotyping, allows the sheep industry to develop breeding values for low-methane animals while keeping the focus on production traits driving overall efficiency. It is estimated that genetic selection alone could reduce flock methane by about 0.5-1% per year, OUR COMMUNITY, OUR ANIMALS Vet Services are proud to work closely alongside many sheep farms with a shared goal of improving animal health & performance.
