16 | Major upgrades to famous stud Construction of a new office, yearling barns, breeding barns, machinery sheds and a foaling unit is complete. Karen Phelps S ince Cambridge Stud was purchased by Brendan and Jo Lindsay in 2018 the farm, made famous by Sir Patrick and Lady Justine Hogan, has undergone a huge transformation. The Lindsay’s passion for the industry has seen them invest heavily in the business taking it to a whole new level, says Cambridge Stud general manager Marc Devcich. “Basically, all the existing buildings were replaced and modernised to develop a truly world- class facility,” he says. This has seen the construction of a new office, yearling barns, breeding barns, machinery sheds and a foaling unit. New guest accommodation and the Cambridge Stud Heritage Centre will be completed shortly. Marc says the centre will be by appointment only and is a celebration of Cambridge Stud’s prestigious history. It explores the contribu- tion its people and horses have made to the thor- oughbred industry in Australasia and internationally. “The Heritage Centre will trace the rise of Sir Patrick Hogan from an ambitious Cambridge farm boy to become New Zealand’s top breeder and a global figure in thoroughbred breeding and racing. The centre will also pay tribute to the many horses and people whose achievements are forever tied to Cambridge Stud,” explains Marc. “As the new custodians of Cambridge Stud Brendan and Jo thought it was important to share its heritage with the next generation.” The investment in infrastructure has gone along- side investment in its breeding and genetics includ- ing bringing commercial stallions to Cambridge to continue supporting its client base.
