He says existing stallions Almanzor and Embellish have made a great start to their careers. “Almanzor’s first yearlings were very well re- ceived in the marketplace and Embellish’s first foals are impressing breeders,” he says. In addition to an upgrade of the broodmare band Cambridge Stud has specifically sought well bred yearling fillies to enhance its racing and breeding operation. It has recently seen good success in the racing string, spearheaded by multiple Group One winner Probabeel, who became the first horse in history to win the Karaka Million at two and three years of age and has subsequently won three times at the highest level in Australia. “The promise of future crops is never far from a breeder’s mind and we are excited about the future for our young stallions. Almanzor and Embellish will both have their first representatives on the track in the coming years and Hello Youmzain is another significant addition to the New Zealand stallion ranks this year.” Cambridge Stud’s Racing Stable is based in Karaka where trainer Lance Noble oversees a team of approximately 25 horses, including 2020 Group Two Matamata Breeders’ Stakes winner Vernazza, at the state-of-the-art facility. Marc says the stud’s racing team has a key part to play in the future direction of Cambridge Stud. He says the investment at Cambridge Stud will send a signal to the New Zealand Thoroughbred industry that it sees a bright long-term future. “With the passage of the Racing Bill into law and the retreat of Covid-19, the fundamentals are strong for a good recovery.
