PBB proud to be supporting business and breed performance Fielding-based Performance Beef Breeders, commonly known as PBB, is a true one-stop shop when it comes to genetic testing, tags, livestock management and marketing services. PBB General Manager Harry Faas, who joined PBB four years ago, is passionate about making farmers lives easier. He says it is rewarding to work alongside some of New Zealand’s leading studs, such as Koanui Polled Herefords. Koanui recently celebrated their 50th Anniversary Bull Sale in Hawkes Bay. “I wish to congratulate the Chesterman family on reaching this special milestone. We’re grateful to have been a part of their journey and to have seen their growth over the years.” PBB started out assisting Koanui with registering cattle, as well as maintaining parentage and database information. As PBB started growing their services, so too did their working relationship with Koanui evolve and grow. “These days they do DNA testing with us, use software from us to manage cattle, and use our Catalogue Builder tool to produce their sale catalogue.” Founded in 1996, PBB’s mission is to enhance business and breed performance in the livestock industry. Central to that is helping farmers unlock the DNA data they need to fast track genetic improvement. PBB’s partnership with Neogen means stud breeders have the latest advances in DNA technology at their disposal to achieve faster breed improvement. Bespoke solutions can be developed for individual breeders. “For example, we’re working with Koanui at the moment to develop a new software application that will be tailored around their specific genetics’ needs. It is so rewarding for us to be involved with their team as Koanui is always keen to try out new tools and technology.” For the commercial livestock farmer, PBB offers a state-of-the-art tool called Igenity that takes the guesswork out of selection of herd replacements in commercial herds. The easy-to-use system utilises DNA scores for 16 maternal, performance and carcass traits to produce advanced animal profiles and optimise selection decisions. Paired with PBB’s line-up of powerful livestock management and reporting tools – Stockbook and HerdMASTER – and farmers and breeders have all the easy-to-use tools they need to improve profitability and performance. Tag orders for Allflex and Z tags can also be made through PBB, including duplicate and replacement tags. On top of all this, PBB offers extensive marketing services through Pivot Design spanning identity, print and digital requirements, everything from logos and flyers to websites and social media. “We have customers throughout New Zealand and Australia who appreciate the unique services that we bring together under one roof. We cater to a variety of breeds; everyone is so focussed now on adding value and doing better.” Meanwhile, PBB sees huge potential wins ahead for New Zealand as genomic technologies continue to evolve. “We’re working together with Beef and Lamb New Zealand as they seek to reduce methane emissions from animals. We think emissions could be cut by 10% by making the right genetic selections. That would be a pretty cool achievement! “We also see real opportunities to use genetics in the production of quality beef from dairy cattle and solve the bobby calf problem.” CONTACT PBB: 0800 248 247 | info@pbbnz.com
