Animal health company Zoetis are a long standing partner with Vet Services Hawke’s Bay, helping provide products, services and diagnostic equipment to support the wellbeing of farm animals, horses and pets. Zoetis are also passionate about long term sustainability, and have been creating new opportunities alongside vets and farmers to help steward resources responsibly and minimise their impact on the environment. In 2021 Zoetis began a recycling programme for Teatseal® tubes. Teatseal is a key product for dairy farmers at dry o , helping reduce mastitis to support a healthier herd. Almost 1.6 million used tubes were collected from vet clinics last year, including Vet Services Hawke’s Bay. The tubes were collected by Plasback, who operate a Product Stewardship scheme to recover used farm plastics for recycling. The over Partnering for better animal health, and a healthier planet. 12 tonnes of plastic collected was then repurposed into new FuturePost™ Fence posts and recyclable plant trays. With the 2022 dry o season almost complete, this volume is set to increase each year as more participants come on board with the programme. New for 2022 is the Zoetis livestock vaccine pack recycling programme, available in all Vet Services Hawke’s Bay clinics. This covers a number of lexi-pack vaccine packs in the Zoetis range, including all Ultravac® vaccines, Glanvac®6, Leptoshield® and Scourguard®. Farmers can simply return their empty vaccine packs back to the clinic and dispose of them in the recycling stations. Due to the nature of di erent plastics and human health concerns with some products, not all vaccine packs can be recycled at this stage (although it is a work in progress).
