South Taranaki’s Shadow Downs Polled Herefords will host its 20th bull sale from midday on September 13 at 46 Lower Herengawe Road, Waverley. Daniel Smith‘s Polled Hereford Stud has gone from strength to strength over the last 20 years, with one a key focus being breeding an animal with a good temperament. “We have 45-50 two years and 15 yearlings on offer this year,” Daniel said. “The yearlings have been out-pricing the two year olds as of the last couple of seasons. I would say that’s largely because we are focusing on low birth weights, people are able to buy them and use them for two or three years. Most would be using them over heifers the first year and then possibly over their Autumn milking cows and then the following spring.” Daniel has had a 100 percent clearance rate at his bull sales for the last ten years with a regular clientele. “We aim to breed a clean-shouldered bull that makes for easy calving and then with plenty of muscle in there as well to add value to the resulting calves. Our bulls are sold at about 80 percent into the dairy market and 20 percent go to beef farmers.” For dairy farmers, the priority is to get a calf out easily and they want to get the cow in-milk and tailing up as easily as possible. “The beef farmers are more focused on a bit more carcass now, and we have been doing muscle-scanning for a long time now and focusRandall Johnston MCFADZEAN CRUIZY CALVE MCFADZEAN SUPER ANGUS MCFADZEAN MEAT MAKER Superior weaning weight % Instant impact on calf size, growth & muscling Higher carcass yields High EMA scores Strong milking & maternal traits At least 7/8's Angus Moderate framed hill country cattle Excellent growth rates and superior muscling Positive fats & high IMF % Strong milking & maternal traits 100% Registered Angus Positive for calving ease Short gestation Positive fats & good growth Suited for heifer mating Thursday 14th September 2023 at 1pm 216 Wiltons Road, Carterton www.mcfadzeancattlecompany.co.nz Johnie McFadzean 0274295777 | Andrew Jennings PGG Wrightsons 0275946820 Open Day 30th August 2pm McFadzean Cruizy Calve 2063 Sire - Te Mania 18-457 Birth Weight 32kg Weaning Weight 337kg Weaning Weight % = 59% Featuring McFadzean Meat Maker, McFadzean Super Angus and the McFadzean Cruizy Calve yearling bulls 45 Years of Proven Performance • Top Quality Yearling Bulls ALL BULLS HAVE PASSED SEMEN TESTING PLEASE CONTACT US FOR A CATALOGUE AND/ OR VIEWING McFadzean Super Angus 2024 Sire - Meadowslea Q295 Weaning Weight 415kg Weaning Weight % = 63% Rural & Commercial Phone: 06 346 6330 or 027 451 7006 • Crop Spraying • Liquid Fertilising • Agrichemical Application • Gorse Spraying • Hedge Mulching • Digger Work • Ground Cultivation • Drilling • Hay & Silage 342 Hukatere Road, RD 1, Patea, 4597 · For any of our services phone: Jim Murdoch 027 446 1750 or 06 273 8483 · Jarrod 0274 298 8155 · Aaron 0275 412 954
