| 61 Contractor geared up for spring season The MAW rural contracting team is ready and geared up for every job. Kim Newth RURAL SERVICES » MAW Ltd Prudent investment in new and near-new equipment over recent years by Vince and Nara Maw, of MAW Ltd, means their rural contracting business is well set up and ready to go for farmers in the Far North this coming spring. With prices for new and used farm vehicles skyrocketing, the couple are relieved they took the plunge early before inflation took hold. It means they now have all that is needed to provide quality rural contracting services in their region. “Over the past two years we have bought three brand new tractors, our new Volvo FM 500 tip truck – used for cartage – and a good secondhand fertiliser truck,” says Vince. “We’ve literally only had that fertiliser truck for a year and picked up a driver in the area too, along with heaps of new work. It has been really good, as it means we can use the fertiliser truck to do our spreading services while freeing up our tractors to do other jobs like cultivation and baling.” Having the new tractors adds to reliability and farmers can be sure of an efficient service. The new additions come with GPS technology that provides all the accuracy needed for jobs such as direct drilling. Vince says their Volvo FM 500 truck, which went on the road in mid-2022, has proved itself over and over again and has enabled MAW Ltd to expand their range and reach a wider clientele. “It has been working hard in the region, carting bales, metal and other materials. Having our own tip truck means that our own operations are reliable and efficient. We can supply our truck spreader and tractor spreaders with fertiliser and lime. There are no hold-ups and everything keeps moving, every day.” Vince is a hard-working rural contractor who enjoys setting a good example for his team, while Nara leads business administration and accounts. The couple, who have three children – Ella, 17, Sophie, 7 and James, 3 – appreciate the pressure that’s on the rural sector. They are doing all they can to make things a little easier for their farmer clients by providing reliable, efficient services, delivered well and in a timely fashion. Over the past 15 years, they have invested strongly in their business with the most recent acquisitions further adding to MAW’s capabilities, with all vehicles and equipment kept wellmaintained and stored out of the weather in a new 430sqm shed. Along with the Volvo FM 500 tip truck and the truck spreader, MAW Ltd has six tractors in total, a 13-tonne digger for earthworks and with a mulching head for clearing, a forage harvester and specialist baling and cultivation equipment. The MAW Ltd team of eight is ready and geared up for every job, covering Kaitaia and throughout the Far North. The wide of services available include hay, baleage, cultivation, bulk silage and grass requirements, meeting farmers’ digger and spreading needs, trees and scrub clearance, drainage, roadworks and driveways. “We have a big silage job booked for next month and the farmers I’ve been talking too are pretty positive. As soon as the sun comes out and everything dries out, we’ll be away.” Proudly supporting MAW Ltd STOCKISTS OF: TOOLS • TRACTOR PARTS • BOLTS • ADBLUE • WIPERS • FILTERS • OIL BATTERIES • AUTOMOTIVE PARTS • ENGINEERING SUPLPIES • BULBS & MORE FREE TESTING & FITTING OF BATTERIES & WIPER BLADES • SEE US IN STORE!
