The expansion will enable increased sales within these existing partnerships while potentially opening new distribution channels. The farm’s eggs reach consumers through multiple brands, including Wholesome Organic, Higgins Free Range, which features size seven and jumbo eggs, Natural Free Range, Hen’s Choice Barn, and the Wholesome Barn range, ensuring coverage across different market segments and price points. The 100-acre Westmere farm was established in 1951 by Dave’s grandfather, while his great-grandfather arrived from the UK over a century ago, farming chickens amongst his livestock. It’s a true family-run enterprise. Dave’s father, Ian, who previously managed the operation, now describes himself as ‘the hawk’, hovers over the business, ensuring everything runs smoothly while implementing a succession plan that has seen Dave become the majority shareholder. The family tradition continues with Dave’s children actively involved in farm activities, maintaining the multi-generational connection to poultry farming that began over a century ago.
