Business Rural North Winter 2026

68 | RURAL SERVICES » MAW Limited MAW Limited delivers full farm services Karen Phelps MAW Limited has carved out a reputation in Northland as a versatile agricultura contracting business capable of handling every aspect of farm work from cultivation to spreading and earthworks. Vince Maw, who founded the company with wife Nara, says the key to its success is providing farmers with a seamless, comprehensive service. “We do everything. If a farmer uses us, we can cart, spread, undertake digger work, re-grassing and more,” he explains. “It’s efficient for them - one call and we organise everything.” This approach has fostered long-term relationships with clients, many of whom have trusted Vince since he started contracting 20 years ago. Growing up on his family’s bull beef farm, Vince learned the value of hard work and developed a thorough understanding of what farmers need. Hiring his father’s 6270 Massey Ferguson, Vince started out with a 3.25 Sam spreader and 12 tonne trailer from there a loader wagon and round baler were added to the fleet. “Having started contracting on my own property before working for others, I know the challenges and priorities our clients face,” he says. In 2019 MAW Limited was officially established and today, Vince and Nara employ four staff, with Vince leading field operations and Nara managing the administration and accounts. The couple, who have three children - Ella, 20, Sophie, 10, and James, 5 - run MAW Limited from their family farm in the Far North, ensuring all equipment is maintained and ready to go for when farmers need a job done. After a challenging year with rising costs, the business is seeing an upswing in work. To maintain efficiency and control expenses, MAW Limited now performs all tractor servicing in-house. “Doing maintenance ourselves keeps costs down and ensures reliability,” Vince explains. Investments in new and near-new machinery have further strengthened the company’s capabilities. Recent additions include three brand-new tractors, a Volvo FM 500 tip truck and a well-maintained second-hand fertiliser truck. The equipment supports a wide range of services: hay and baleage, maize planting, cultivation, bulk silage, digger and spreading work, drainage, roadworks and driveways. They also supply quality feed throughout the winter months with bulk purchases and single purchases available as well as delivery. “Having our own tip truck means our operations are reliable and efficient. We can supply our truck spreader and tractor spreaders with fertiliser and lime with no hold-ups,” says Vince. The MAW Limited fleet also includes a 13-tonne digger with a mulching head for tree and scrub clearance, a forage harvester and specialist baling and cultivation equipment. Recent investments, such as a new loader, allow faster loading of fertiliser and lime, freeing up tractors for other tasks. MAW Limited covers Kaitaia and the wider Far North and Vince and Nara’s dedication to hard work and leading by example has been an important factor in the company’s success. “We want farmers to have a smooth operation without disruption,” says Vince, “and we back that up with consistent service and attention to detail. We’re proud to have had many long term clients and we look forward to continuing to assist Northland farmers.” After a challenging year with rising costs, MAW Limited is seeing an upswing in work.
