50 | Lammerlaw Stud to offer more rams Midside Sampling ewes. All stud ewes were sampled this year to better match with sires to produce a better product. Kim Newth MEAT & WOOL» Lammerlaw Romney Stud Named after the Lammerlaw Range in Central Otago, Lammerlaw Romney Stud is known for its hardy hill rams with exceptional wool and all-round performance. In response to a rise of enquiries from prospective clients, the stud will double the number of rams available by private sale this coming summer. It is an exciting time for the stud as it begins selecting up to 70 Romney rams and up to 30 Romdales for private sale this December/January. “It has been great to have people approaching us over winter who want to come and visit the stud,” says Lammerlaw’s founder Eric Laurenson. “We’re pretty heavy on culling, so I like to think the quality is there. Of course, when clients come to view them, they can make up their own mind.” The stud’s name acknowledges the Laurensons long farming history in Central Otago. Over the past decade or more, Eric has split his time between his family’s farm in Paerau, where in the last 12 months of ownership he was an equity partner, and the Mackenzie Country, where he and partner Lynsey McIntosh have their 170-hectare farm. Last December, he decided the time was right to sell out of the equity partnership to fully focus on the Mackenzie farm and stud operation. Eric has put the extra time to good use, sprucing up yards and other farm infrastructure. The total number of ewes has also been boosted by a third over the past year. Lammerlaw currently has around 260 stud ewes and a commercial ock of 1000 ewes with both mobs having recently scanned at 180%. Ewe condition is tracking well in the lead up to lambing in September. • to page 52 ► Hardy sheep bred on hard hill that perform on any country ► Fertile, high yielding, meaty rams with constitution ► Finalist in Beef & Lamb Sheep Industry awards for Meat Yield and Internal Parasite Resistance ► Progeny testing sires for meat yield through via scan at Alliance ► WormFEC programme for 20 years, less drenching, lower costs ► Stud ewes haven’t been drenched for 25 years ► Using 5k and 50k DNA technology ► Lambing hoggets for ten years unassisted on tussock Contact:MikeMcElrea~032040860or0272429376 2129 Tapanui Raes Junction Highway, Edievale, West Otago Coopworth & Beltex crosses over Coopworth, Su olk & Suftex.
