Karen Phelps RURAL SERVICES » North Otago Truck Repairs North Otago Truck Repairs has been providing essential services to farmers and commercial vehicle owners alike for nearly 20 years. Under the ownership of Jesse Dunlop and his partner Darcy, who took over the company in April 2021, North Otago Truck Repairs has continued to build on its solid foundation of delivering great service to its clients. Having worked for the previous owners, Lyndon and Rachel Jones, for several years, Jesse was well positioned to continue the company’s legacy while introducing fresh ideas. “When I bought the business, it was all really well set up, so I was lucky. Lyndon worked for me for about 18 months afterwards so that was an interesting role reversal although I’m sure he liked going home at five o clock and not having to think about the business,” says Jesse with a smile. Originally from Oamaru, Jesse did a pre-trade course in heavy vehicle mechanical engineering after leaving school, followed by an apprenticeship. This solid foundation, combined with his local roots, has proven invaluable in understanding and meeting the needs of the rural community. Since taking the reins, Jesse and Darcy have introduced more technology to the business, including advanced diagnostic equipment. This investment has enhanced the ability of the business to quickly identify and resolve issues, minimizing downtime for clients. One thing that sets North Otago Truck Repairs apart is its specialization in hydraulic work. “We have an onsite hose repair vehicle so anyone that blows a hydraulic hose on their farm or wherever they are working, we can go to them and repair it on site. This mobile service has proven crucial for farmers, allowing for quick repairs and minimal disruption to their operations,” says Jesse. As an Oamaru distributor for Pirtek New Zealand, a well-known hydraulics supplier, the company maintains a large stock of hoses and fittings on-site. This arrangement also helps assist quick turnaround times for customers. The company works from Hakataramea Valley to Palmerston to Waimate. “It’s a big area we cover,” Jesse says, “but, combined with our rapid response times, it has earned us a loyal client base throughout the district.” North Otago Truck Repairs offers a comprehensive range of services and Jesse provides a snapshot of current and recent projects: “At the moment, we’re undertaking winter maintenance on a fertiliser spreader, including hydraulics, new hoses, and pumps. We recently fitted a hedge trimmer to the back of a tractor. We also service commercial vehicles including performing pre-certificate of fitness checks, and handle brake repairs and general engineering tasks.” Community involvement is also a priority for North Otago Truck Repairs. “It’s a big area we cover,” Jesse says, “but, combined with our rapid response times, it has earned us a loyal client base throughout the district.” • On-site Hydraulic Hose Repairs • Heavy Vehicle Servicing and Repairs • On-site servicing • Pre-COF inspections 03 433 1153 or 027 359 0247 office@notruckrepairs.com 32 Weston Road, Oamaru PLUMBING & IRRIGATION Farm Development Mole Ploughing Subdivisions & Civil Contracting Stock Underpasses Roading & Maintenance Rock, Gravel & Sand Supply Pivot Earthworks New Vehicle Crossings Drainage Supply & Installation Fixed Grid Irrigation Heating Solar Installation Hot Water Cylinders Bathroom Alterations Kitchen Alterations New House Builds Pole Shed Construction Renovations Alterations Farm Buildings Civil Construction Concrete Work Hard Landscaping EARTHWORKS & CIVIL BUILDING & CONSTRUCTION Email: admin@ssg.co.nz Phone: 03 434 1133 or 027 224 9424 SSGEarthmoving “We sponsor Valley Rugby Club in Weston along with other local groups and initiatives. However staffing has been the main barrier to expansion. “We are looking for reliable people with good attention to detail and good with customers,” he says. “They would be joining an awesome work crew, and Oamaru is a great place to live with everything at your doorstep.”
