As the founder of Milburn Lime, Roger made a massive difference to Kiwi farmers across Otago, Southland, and beyond, providing a high-quality agricultural product that has stood the test of time and earned a reputation nationwide. Sadly Roger passed away in February 2025, leaving behind not just a thriving business but a legacy of innovation and commitment to rural New Zealand. From its humble beginnings in 1993 as Hilton Lime Co, Roger saw the potential of the former Dominion lime and phosphate quarry in Milburn, Milton. With a vision to support farmers in improving their soil health, he set about developing a product that could deliver consistent, proven results. By 1995, the company had rebranded as Milburn Lime and under Roger’s leadership, it grew to become one of the most respected names in the agricultural lime industry. Today Milburn Lime employs up to 14 people during the busy summer months, with its annual output sitting around 100,000 tonnes. This means southern farmers have a reliable supply of lime when they need it most – a testament to Roger’s determination to keep up with demand while maintaining quality. “Roger was driven by his desire to help farmers get the best out of their land,” says Milburn Lime admin and sales manager Jenny Geard. “He understood that healthy soils lead to healthy crops and healthy animals.
