Kim Newth Having a good shed or two that will endure through all weathers is a must in rural New Zealand. Alpine Building is a trusted name in sheds across the farm, lifestyle block and rural business sector. Alpine is passionate about providing the best service and a tailored outcome to be proud of, whether it’s for a lifestyle shed to house a classic car collection, a farm shed to store grain, hay or machinery, a shelter for livestock, a workshop for a rural contractor, or even an aircraft hangar. “We supply buildings nationwide and have been doing so for over 30 years,” says Brad Person, Alpine’s Marketing Team Leader. “We have built over 5,000 sheds to date, made to last for generations. That’s why people come to us because they want a long lasting building to protect their expensive assets.” He notes that some cheaper options on the market can be rust prone and don’t tend to last as long. Alpine has a tradition of excellence and a culture of continuous improvement that supports its purpose, to create buildings that endure. Alpine sheds include bird-proof rafters, clearspan design, quality timber framing and hot dip galvanised structural steel, ensuring that the end result is user friendly, practical and will stand the test of time. “We’re often building on multi-generational properties and are proud to be designing sheds that will serve generations to come.” When Mid Canterbury sheep and cropping farmer Alastair Studholme needed a new building to store grain, seed and machinery, he turned to Alpine for a solution. He’d previously been impressed by Alpine’s shed display at the South Island Agricultural Field Days in Kirwee. Alpine’s shed configurator tool made it easy for Alastair to share his plan with Alpine’s Timaru team. After finalising the details, Alpine obtained the building consent, delivered the complete kitset, and had its in-house installation team construct the shed on site. “The Alpine team is amazing, very professional; they think of every little detail and they do everything they say they’re going to do and more,” says Alastair. “They couldn’t have done better….Everything was completed exactly how we wanted it.” The new dual-purpose shed includes a drying floor that’s been a game changer for the family farm operation resulting in significantly increased capacity and productivity. With timber framing, a clearspan layout and bird proofed design, the new shed is a hardy, functional fit for the farm team. Alastair’s farm has been in the family for generations, so the shed had to be designed and built to endure for generations to come. “Our family has been here for 160 years. We have buildings here that are 150 years old. We like our buildings to last and look good for their whole life.” The farm location, near the Rangitata River mouth, is in an iconic environment that can also be tough on structures. “They wanted something that was going to last the distance and this shed will do just that,” says Brad.
