Welshy was able to set up a shingle yard from the shingle they screened from flooded paddocks. “You’ve got to go with the times. It’s no good staying in one area as things change all the time.” Welshy’s daughter Megan and her partner Michael Oliver are growing the rural side of the contracting business. While Megan and Kelly Jamison look after the office and administration, Michael and his team of three operate hedge cutters, rut busters, and muck spreaders. Using wheeled diggers, they offer drain clearing and any on farm maintenance. “Michael has turned the agricultural side into one of our biggest divisions. We’re really fortunate to have his skill and expertise,” says Welshy. “Our son Tomos is a Civil Engineer so we are always keen to hear what we can do to improve our business from his perspective.” Welshy is passionate about machines and has added a hire business to the company’s portfolio along with importing a range of NC trailers built by NC Engineering in Northern Ireland. “As a child I loved toys – now I’ve got big toys to play with,” he laughs. “There is such a thrill in getting a job done well and watching all the machines at work.” He is equally passionate about the team of people he surrounds himself with and believes a good team that works in well is gold. “It’s a bit like a rugby team, you just have to select the right people for the right job!” “We have an excellent team of skilled machinery operators and our customers like that we are a family business,” he says. “Michael has turned the agricultural side into one of our biggest divisions.
