Business Rural Summer 2024

96 | The business reaches its peak during harvest season from mid-January until the end of February. Ross Bros Transport is focused on sustainable growth. The company operates five Isuzu trucks with bulk bins, specialising in bulk cartage for the rural sector, including fertiliser delivery for Ravensdown and grain, small seeds and woodchip cartage throughout Canterbury. The facilities include 200 and 300-tonne silos, self-unload silos, storage sheds and eight drying bays. The family’s hands-on approach sets them apart in the industry. “We don’t hide behind the computer all day, put it that way,” says Jarrod with a smile, noting that both he and his father regularly get behind the wheel to undertake driving duties. The next generation is already making its mark with Jarrod and wife Sally’s oldest son Jackson working as a qualified Class 5 driver and although currently in Japan playing rugby should be back for the last part of the harvest. Another son Jonty helps out when not harvesting and working for other agricultural contractors. Their two daughters Eleanor and Gretchen help out with yard duties in school holidays. Sally manages administration, health and safety and accounts. The company employs two full-time drivers and casual staff as needed, ensuring it remains responsive to customer requirements. This family-centric approach has fostered remarkable customer loyalty, with some clients remaining with the company since its inception nearly four decades ago. “Our very loyal client base, which reflects on the service we provide,” says Jarrod. The business reaches its peak during harvest season from mid-January until the end of February, but maintains steady operations throughout the year with its diverse service offering, which includes grain trading. For farmers seeking efficiency in their grain operations, we can offer a streamlined solution that eliminates the need to coordinate multiple service providers. This comprehensive approach, backed by three generations of family expertise, positions us well for continued success while maintaining the personal connection that has been our hallmark for nearly 40 years.” Brophy Knight are proud to provide accounting and business advisory services to Ross Bros Transport For accounting and business advice, contact: Marcus Schoonderbeek, Greg Wall, Brendon Adam, Angus Lindsay or Emma Hastings (03) 307 8557 027 274 3469 38 J B Cullen Drive, Ashburton am@mcintoshgroup.co.nz McIntosh Builders are proud to be associated in yet another project with Crichel Down Potatoes, boasting this massive new potato Storage Shed.
