| 21 Glenross Station is a family business. “They’re a phenomenal ewe flock, even type and high performing. We’re keeping the flock quite small and focussing on their productive value, in terms of fertility and lambs weaned and constitutional qualities.” RURAL PEOPLE » Glenross Station Marcus is keen to embrace farm management tools and technologies as these evolve, but assesses each one available in terms of cost, efficiency gains, ease of use and outcomes achieved. “We use Farmax, and engage a consultant. It’s a great tool for forecasting and budgeting season on season. I’ve also been using ChatGPT to assist in analysing farming data.” Another string to the bow is a farming recruitment agency he and partner Sarah have established. Marcus says it is a simple operation targeting dairy farming and agricultural contracting. “It’s been a bit of a slow-burn getting it established but we’ve now had quite a few reaching out to us for machinery operators. It works through social media and hopefully will alleviate the longterm shortages often experienced here for good quality experienced staff.” Marcus says one thing he’s learnt through his years working in agriculture is that its essential to have a good group of people around you. “We’re fortunate to have really passionate keen people who are experts in their chosen field. Stock agents, vets, agronomists, financial advisors, all bring real value to our business. When you’re trying to make big decisions, its great to know they are just a call away.” “You cannot beat NZ Wool it is naturally grown from grass” Main West Coast Road, Yaldhurst, RD 6, Christchurch 7676, New Zealand Phone: 027 432 4353 Email: ywlwool@nzwool.com Web: www.nzwool.com Marcus Hildreth and family.
