Of course, running a harvesting crew also means running some very serious machinery. McCallum Harvesting operates heavy-duty Eltec harvesters and other modern equipment designed for Southland’s rugged terrain. “These machines are powerful and capable, but you’ve got to treat them with respect and have operators who know what they’re doing,” David says. “That’s another reason why training and professionalism are so important – it keeps everyone safe and makes sure the gear is being used properly.” As forestry continues to evolve, McCallum Harvesting is determined to keep pace with industry changes and lead by example. For David, the formula is simple: professionalism, safety, environmental responsibility, and pride in the job. “You’ve got to be seen to be heard in this business,” he says. “We’re out there every day showing that forestry is a highly skilled and professional industry. I’m proud of my crew, and I’m proud of the work we do.”
