100 | RURAL SERVICES » Ranfurly Transport Rapid growth part of collective vision G rowing from five trucks to twenty-six in the space of a decade has been the result of hard-work and attention to detail, plus a col- lective vision for both Richard and Rachal Duffy, to grow in scale. Based in Ranfurly, inland from Palmerston, Ranfurly Transport delivers stock and bulk cartage from Bluff to Blenheim and on occasion to the North Island. The couple, who say they have diesel in their veins, both came from transporting families. “We initially never imagined we would buy out the opposition, McLaren Transport, but when the opportunity presented, and with partnership from HWR, we grabbed it and haven’t looked back,” says Richard. They’re proud of the region they have lived in all their lives and Rachel says, being local, has brought significant benefits. In provincial situations, this is really important in creating and maintaining business.” The addition of stock dispatcher Todd Dundass, when growth was imminent, was pivotal to enabling the company to cope with the additional volumes. “Up until then I had been doing everything. With the addition of a bulk/general dispatcher, Reon Smith, leaving me free to work on the business and provide support where needed,” Richard says. Supporting Rachael in administration is a part- time worker, Ros Blue. She says the company is now well poised to grow again. “As a general rural of transport business you have to be prepared to transport anything.
