Grafton Irrigation uses the latest computer software in the design process, and each new system is hydrauli- cally analysed. With three fully equipped engineering workshops located in Timaru, Glenavy, and Oamaru, and highly experienced and professionally qualified engi- neers, Grafton Irrigation can complete a variety of engineering services including fabricating suction and delivery pipework, and repairs to pumps and irrigators. Other engineering services are also on offer such as welding, cutting, drilling, lathe work, pipe threading, pressing, machining and rolling. Grafton Irrigation’s speciality is in providing clever irrigation designs that will save you money with lower installation and running costs. “A great example of Grafton Irrigation’s vision and innovation is the invention of the solid set system known as G-Set,” Jon says. “G-Set places sprinklers lower to the ground, making them less susceptible to wind damage. Each sprinkler is individually controlled and applies just the right daily amount of water, minimising any leaching or run off.” G-Sets are low enough for a spray boom to safely pass over, while the G-Set container and specialised stock guard ensures all components are protected from the weather and any stock rubbing. G-Sets don’t require any labour, they apply water very ef- ficiently, and are a great solution on steep hills and awkward corners. Grafton Irrigation is an industry leader in design- ing Zimmatic centre pivots on rolling hill country. “Zimmatic centre pivots are capable of climbing grades of 30%, thanks to their exclusive uni- knuckle span connection and span pipes with 10% thicker walls. This can save farmers money by not having to carry out earthworks.” Zimmatic centre pivots can be fitted with a precision corner system, drop spans, and field plus articulation which enables the pivot to bend around immovable objects. Corner arms and laterals are fitted with GPS guidance systems. “All of our pivots are fitted with the top of the line Boss panels which integrate with the many technological options,” Jon says. “We can also provide a variety of different types of nozzles for each individual situation.” The Grafton Irrigation team is highly experienced in the latest irrigation electronics technology such as Zimmatic Variable Rate Irrigation (VRI). “VRI allows you to change the amount of water applied to different parts of your farm with a high degree of precision. We are able to fit this technology on new pivots and retrospectively on existing pivots. Furthermore, the VRI concept is achieved with G-Sets that offer you control over the time each sprinkler runs.”
