Karen Phelps S olely specialising in agricultural spraying along with prompt service and a profes- sional job done at a reasonable cost are the key factors that have seen long-standing South Canterbury agricultural spray business Scannell Spraying a favourite with growers and farmers. “Timing is everything in the agronomy world,” says company owner Clayton Kinsman. “We need to be there when required and do each job is if it was our own.” Clayton, who has been working in and with the industry for about 25 years and is a well-expe- rienced spray applicator with more than 15,000 hours in the seat, took over the company in 2017. Since then it has gone from strength to strength serving long-term clients as well as new ones. In order to deliver the goal of being there when customers need, the company continually invests in the right vehicles and equipment. Last year a new Isuzu AMT 7.5 tonne truck was purchased to upgrade an older machine. A modern self-propelled SAM Vision 3000 litre crop sprayer was also added to supersede the previous one. Scannell Spraying offers four rigs so it can handle any size job and also last minute customer requests. This includes two 24m machines for the larger arable jobs and two 18.5m trucks for the sheep/ beef and dairy jobs.All machines are now fitted with proof of placement technology (reports available on request) and run auto section controlled shutoff. The two 24m machines are also equipped with auto steering.
