And that, he says, is the secret of his success, pure and simple – it is about building relationships. When the opportunity arose to establish his own business, Dave McCrea Building Ltd, in 2006 Dave seized it with a focus on building dairy sheds. “We also got involved in other building projects and the business grew quite rapidly from a twoman operation to a team of fourteen at one stage. We are back down to a team of eight now, including me but we do everything from the farm buildings and dairy sheds, through to staff houses and even the farmers own homes. We don’t just focus on rural projects though. We do a lot of residential work beyond the farm gate, including some very elaborate architectural homes.” In fact, Dave McCrea Builders is award winning with three Silver and three Bronze Master Builders Awards, af rming the Ashburton company’s craftsmanship. “We’re yet to get the gold award though,” says Dave. “Our operation goes right from the concept, design and planning stage, through to council consent, project management and construction.
