Business Rural Winter 2022

58 | RTL structured to provide best service The RTL fleet of 15 fertiliser spreaders is equipped with proof of placement GPS systems. Karen Phelps Road Transport Logistics (RTL) is well known for servicing the rural sector with a highly local and personal approach. There have been big benefits from cost savings and increased efficiencies by bringing together a number of different companies under one umbrella, says RTL CEO Shona Robertson. “By uniting as one we are able to develop and apply solutions for new challenges as they occur within the industry. We saw how the industry was tracking and that greater investment in areas like health and safety, people and technology was the way forward. We knew that by investing in these areas across the group we could provide our customers with an even better service and become market leaders.” Having a presence in West, South and Central Otago means the company can respond as a whole to client need. “This region-wide presence means that if, for example, the weather is bad for spreading fertiliser in West Otago, we can send any of our 15 spreaders to areas where the weather is suitable. Then, when the weather improves, we can deploy those spreaders back to West Otago to complete jobs in that area. That’s just one example of a quicker and more responsive service, utilising all our resources efficiently, and our clients really benefit from that,” she explains. Formed in 2013 RTL remains a family owned and operated business with Shona, husband Bruce and Shona’s parents as the key shareholders. Today CEO Shona and Bruce, Operations and Fleet Manager, are at the helm of the multi-disciplined logistics operation, which includes brands Becker’s Transport, Clinton Waipahi Holdings, Tuapeka Transport, West RURAL SERVICES » Road Transport Logistics Ltd • to page 60
