Cold and frosts can cause concrete to crack and a steel deck is also just a third of the weight of a concrete deck,” explains company managing director Hamish Keith. In its fabrication workshop, complete with overhead crane, CCMP has the equipment to produce the large decks from 6mm plate sheet metal. They are cut on a plasma cutter and welded together. They are assembled on site in four sections. CCMP technicians are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. A custom cut rubber mat completes the deck to ensure both cows and humans are comfortable. CCMP is an Otago owned business started in the seventies. Today the company is owned by Hamish and his father Bill. The Balclutha head office is the company’s manufacturing arm as well as offering farm servicing. CCMP also has a branch in Momona dedicated solely to farm servicing. Hamish says that from the outset the company has valued innovation and diversified into producing a full range of farm related products and services all built and serviced by Otago people. CCMP is authorised agents for DeLaval milking systems, Grundfos pumps and Reid & Harrison effluent equipment. The company also offers the DeLaval InService Program, which can be applied to any type of shed, not just DeLaval product. CCMP technicians are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days per year and are all highly qualified including registered MPTA Milking Machine Testers. Parts and spares are kept locally for a quick turnaround. “In over 40 years we’ve have built literally hundreds of projects providing a turnkey herringbone and rotary dairy shed solution to farmers from initial design through to finished shed,” says Hamish. “We can take a project from a grass paddock to finished dairy shed. It’s about helping farmers to run their farms smarter.”This has seen the company come up with innovative products such as its unique self levelling roller, developed by Bill nearly 30 years ago, which evenly distributes the weight across two bearings. The company is also working on updating the design of one of its dairy Proud to support CCMP Ltd FOR ALL YOUR DOMESTIC, COMMERCIAL & INDUSTRIAL REQUIREMENTS 03 418 2762 | mosleyelectrical@yahoo.co.nz Experienced Electricians providing dairy shed maintenance, rebuilds and conversions Clutha Chain Mesh Products is a proud member of the... Hamish says CCMP’s experience means it has specialist expertise in integrating automation and technology into existing dairy sheds. The company utilises technology in its own operation as well, for example setting up time-lapse cameras to watch cows informing how it delivers the right solutions to farmers. At the moment CCMP is building a new dairy shed replacement for a client it has worked with on multiple projects. “We originally built a steel deck for him around 25-30 years ago. Our equipment is made to last and that means we often have lifelong relationships with our clients because they trust CCMP and know our advice and solutions stand the test of time.” starting to move into other types of recyclable products that will also have to be recycled by 2024. The rest of CMC Contracting’s business is in baling and cultivation and the company offers a reliable service by experienced operators. Started in the 1990s on Peter’s own farm, he saw an opportunity to get into round baling and teamed up with Leigh McHaffie to establish Chisholm McHaffie Contracting. The business now operates all around Southland and South Otago, with a modern fleet of John Deere tractors to take care of all agricultural contracting needs. CMC Contracting has worked with The Logic Studio to develop CMC Go, a web-based job management app for the company and its clients that keeps job information and recording and monitoring in front of who needs to see it. “All of our tractors have tablets in them and when we get to a farmer’s place, we can let them know we’ve arrived and we can read their health and safety plan. When we finish the job the farmer can tick it off and the system creates an invoice and a report for the farmer for their audit purposes. Technology is a great thing compared to a paper-based system. If you use it the right way, you can streamline your business and save cost and time.” Once mandatory agricultural plastic recycling comes in next year, farmers will have access to a report showing how many bags or tons have been picked up from their place, giving them proof of their compliance in automated form.
