Rose and her husband Nick actually own and operate their own Groundspreading business near Oamaru. Since taking up the busy role, Rose says her eyes have really been opened to just how passionate members of Groundspread NZ are about taking care of the environment, ensuring that there is no room for any waste of precious resources. “My membership are dedicated to the environment and actively doing their part to reduce any impact that their business may have on it, this group is passionate about the environment and supporting their rural clients in meeting increasing regulation in the sector.” Rose describes members and governance of Groundspread NZ as being full of amazing, really tech-savvy early adopters of technology, as evidenced in creating the Spreadmark nutrient placement scheme. Spreadmark spreading improvements are saving the primary sector $173m per annum (and increasing) through spreading cost savings and efficiencies. “Spreadmark is focused on the precision placement of fertilisers and the technology these days is so clever that we are treating pasture on a plant-by-plant level rather than the traditional paddock-by-paddock model.” As a small niche industry, a groundspreaders’ contribution to New Zealand’s pasture to plate journey can often go unrecognised and Rose says that raising the profile of her 115 members
