We are independent, Spreadmark Certified testers for both ground and aerial fertiliser spreaders. (approximately 450 groundspread units) and the precision work that they undertake could help change people’s perspectives about the strategic use of fertiliser to grow food in NZ. “My members’ ordinary really is quite extraordinary,” Rose says. Readying themselves for the next phase of their strategic journey, Groundspread NZ are planning a Member’s Day in Christchurch on July 12th to discuss the opportunities and issues facing Groundspread NZ members. “We’ve tried to make the topics highly relevant to this time in the organisation’s journey and to be engaging for members, so that everyone attending takes away some new information to support their businesses to grow well.” The day will include plenty of time for discussion about achieving a quality spread and what barriers /opportunities there are to improve what members already do so well. “We’ve decided to structure the afternoon into four discussion groups, to give members plenty of engagement, before the AGM is held, followed by our annual awards gala in the evening.” The sessions have been designed to extend over a range of important matters and include a discussion on branch structure, to analyse in what ways some branches are thriving, while others struggling. Another discussion will be centred around Spreadmark, talking about a review of the organisation’s flagship brand, and looking at proposed changes in the code of practice. That discussion will also touch on the development RURAL SERVICES » Groundspread NZ of a training syllabus aligned to gaining Spreadmark credentials for operators. Health and Safety will be another discussion area, with members able to look through the new Groundspread NZ Health & Safety manual full of resources and templates for members to use. The new TruckSafe and HarmFree initiatives will also be discussed in this session. And finally, a discussion on the development of micro-credentials for employers to access for staff and how that will be delivered through a training provider will be explored. Prior to this Member’s Day, a group of 20 people taking part in the industry’s inaugural GroundED Leadership Programme will be meeting in Christchurch on July 11 to complete their in-house training. “Nurturing leadership is one of our guiding values, so formalising some of the skills our team have, as well as adding to their toolbelt for all areas of their lives, has been a key focus this year. Alongside this programme, being designed and delivered by Education Unlimited, we are also offering members an opportunity to gain a Level 3 Certificate in Business Leadership, which is very exciting”. As the only person employed in the organisation, Rose is responsible for supporting its good governance, its strategic management, and for ensuring all members are kept up to speed with issues of the day. It’s a role she relishes. “I have the best job in the world, being able to work from home and alongside an awesome group of people, all focussed on adding value to the groundspread industry and our members’ businesses.”
