18 | A steady rhythm on southern roads Splitting the former parent company, D T King Transport, into four separate entities has been a positive move. Russell Fredric FORESTRY » Kings Log Transport Ltd Two years after major restructuring, Kings Log Transport continues to roll to a steady rhythm on southern roads. Director Gordon Harding reflects that splitting the former parent company, D T King Transport, into four separate entities has been a positive move in simplifying its operations. “Now we are solely logging and we just get to focus on that, which is really good and I guess it’s same for the other companies. We are very independent, but we still collaborate and share staff when needed.” Through its lineage and legacy, Kings Log Transport is Southland’s most experienced company in log cartage and related logistics, ensuring safe and efficient delivery facilitated with a highly specialised fleet and extremely experienced management and staff. In October last year Kings Log Transport gained a contract to transport wood chips from Southwood Export in Awarua, just south of Invercargill, to South Port at Bluff. Associated with this was the purchase by tender late last year of five truck and trailer chip liners that were part of a company liquidation. “We have brought them up to spec like the rest of our fleet and took the staff on as well,” Gordon says. The acquisition was a perfect fit as Kings Log Transport also carted Southland-grown eucalyptus logs to Southwood Export’s mill at Awarua for chipping.
