This is INMOTION ACROSS THE SOUTH With trusted brands, technical depth, and national reach, Motion New Zealand is helping rural operators in the South Island extend asset life, improve reliability, and reduce equipment costs – from dairy sheds to forestry sites. Rural industries across the South Island demand resilience. Whether it’s irrigation in Canterbury, dairy on the West Coast, or forestry in Otago, local operations depend on equipment that can keep going through tough seasons and tougher terrain. Enter Motion New Zealand – a unified industrial solutions provider built from some of the country’s most trusted specialist suppliers. Though the Motion brand is only three years old, its roots in New Zealand manufacturing and maintenance go back over a century. “We’re working to bring the Motion brand to the forefront,” says Courtney Ireland, General Manager – Value Added Products, at Motion. “Our customers know the legacy brands, but Motion is the brand that ties all these well-known brands together.” Motion’s rural customers benefit from 31 branches across the country and a practical, on-the-ground approach that puts technical problem-solving first. The company offers parts, engineering, service, and support across power transmission, hydraulics, fluid systems, bearings, and more. “There’s no one in New Zealand that does what we can do in its entirety,” says Neil Hulme, General Manager - Industrial Products, at Motion. “We’ve got technical teams that can design and manufacture solutions in-house, including a team of qualified engineers. We can mobilise that expertise across every product we supply and every industry we serve.” That means Motion is equally at home supporting a local distributor, a small regional workshop or partnering with a nationwide agribusiness. In one case, the team helped extend the life of dairy shed gearboxes by recommending a tailored lubrication strategy. In another, they worked with OEMs to improve the reliability of forestry equipment destined for export. “We work with customers to reduce their total cost of ownership,” says Hulme. “That could mean changing how a component is installed, advising on lubrication challenges, or proactively replacing a part before it fails. We’re not just selling parts – we’re supporting the entire process.” Innovations have also made their way into food production, with Motion’s metal-detectable seals helping processors avoid costly contamination risks. In the quarry sector, the company’s 24/7 field technicians and predictive maintenance tools are helping extend the life of critical systems and reduce reactive callouts. “Either directly or in partnership with a network of resellers, we service all parts of New Zealand,” says Ireland. “Even though Motion in New Zealand is relatively small in the context of the global Motion business, we’re able to access the technical and supply capability of a global business to support local customers across the country.” For rural operators in the South Island, that’s good news. Motion isn’t just supplying parts – it’s partnering with customers to improve reliability, plan maintenance, and boost performance. “We’re working alongside OEMs, improving the durability of forestry equipment that heads to an export market, or helping major dairy operators test whether a critical hose can last an extra year,” says Hulme. “That’s what partnership looks like.” From the paddock to the plant, Motion is helping keep the South’s rural economy moving.
