The couple, both lifelong Rivertonians, have built their company around the community they love, serving local farmers with the dedication and reliability they have come to expect. Andy’s connection to the business stretches back nearly three decades. He first began working in the yard as a teenager and he and Shelley later spent 10 years managing operations before officially taking over two years ago when the couple bought the Riverton division from DT Kings Transport. The change was seamless, with familiar faces and trusted service ensuring a smooth continuation for their customers. “The only real difference was the name change and some new signage,” Shelley says. “We already had client relationships, we knew everyone, and the business just flowed on naturally. People know we’re local, they know we’re Riverton people, and they know they’re using a local business.” This season has been a busy one for the company, with strong commodity prices and a backlog of work from the really wet spring leading to increased demand for their services. Farmers who had deferred lane maintenance and fertilisation in previous years are now catching up, resulting in an uptick in workload for Andy, Shelley, and their team. One of Riverton Rural Transport’s key strengths in managing the increased workload is Andy’s hands-on approach. As both owner and operator, he’s always ready to jump into a truck or machine when needed. “Not all business owners can do that,” Shelley says.
