84 | Expanding services with new launch Tasman Agriculture Rural Ltd prides itself on providing exceptional service to its clients. Karen Phelps Tasman Agriculture Rural Ltd has expanded its services with the launch of Tasman Viticulture Supplies in Marlborough. “An opportunity came up through a supplier wanting a distributor in the region so it made sense to expand. It’s been going very well and is growing,” says Glen Atkin, one of the owners of Tasman Agriculture Rural Ltd. The new division focuses on providing plant nutrition solutions for the viticulture and horticulture industries. It offers liquid plant nutrition products, soil testing services, fertiliser supply and advisory services with access to industry experts through supplier partnerships. “We are undertaking trial work in the region in conjunction with suppliers including grape soil compaction, vine decline and yield trials and have had some good results. These results confirm what we are doing and the products we are using work.” Tasman Agriculture Rural Ltd has built its reputation on serving small rural communities that larger companies have abandoned. Founded in 2010 by Glen Atkin and Maclane Dixon, the company began by selling grass seed and agrichemicals before evolving into a comprehensive rural supplies business. “It’s important to us to be there to support our local rural communities. If we didn’t go in where other businesses have pulled out, those small communities would have nothing,” says Glen. The company’s headquarters is in Ikamatua, 50 kilometres north of Greymouth and 28 kilometres south of Reefton on the West Coast. It has since expanded to include additional stores in Whataroa, near Franz Josef, and a depot in Karamea within the information centre. The company also has a dedicated representative covering the Nelson/ Marlborough region as part of Tasman Viticulture Supplies. With a team of eight dedicated staff members, Tasman Agriculture Rural Ltd prides itself on providing exceptional service to its clients. “We have a great team who do a good job. Some have been with the company for many years and offer a great deal of experience to our clients,” says Glen. As Managing Director, Glen oversees all aspects of the business, ensuring a seamless operation that has experienced consistent year-on-year growth. He says that the company’s success is measured not only in financial terms but also in the positive impact it has on the lives and livelihoods of those residing in New Zealand’s rural communities. One of the key services that distinguishes the company is its free on-farm delivery service, RURAL SERVICES » Tasman Agriculture Rural acknowledging the logistical challenges faced by remote farming operations. The company operates an eight-tonne curtainsider truck and another eight-tonne delivery truck, allowing for efficient delivery of larger quantities of products to its clients. “When you’re farming, things happen, and you need to be able to get access to products and materials to fix things. You don’t always have two hours to drive to the nearest town. Our customers comment that they really appreciate the fact that we are supporting them,” says Glen. In addition to its core business and the new viticulture division, Tasman Agriculture Rural Ltd operates a subsidiary called Sol-U-Fert West Coast Ltd near Ikamatua. This business specialises in supplying and spraying liquid and soluble fertiliser for clients, further diversifying the company’s offerings. “When you’re farming, things happen, and you need to be able to get access to products and materials to fix things.
