Jeff Farm’s two-year cadetships provide young people with a thorough grounding in all aspects of practical farming. Run on behalf of the Salvation Army, the productive 2433ha breeding and finishing property in South Otago is an ideal training ground. The farm’s graduating cadets are sought-after in the rural sector. Interest in the cadetships continues to grow, year on year. Jeff Farm’s work featured on Hyundai Country Calendar in March, bringing even more enquiries than usual for this year’s upcoming open day. Mike and Tarryn Benton, respectively Farm Manager and Farm Administrator, are delighted with the positive feedback on the Country Calendar programme and the rising interest they’re seeing in the cadetships. “Five years ago, we were struggling to get three or four applications a year but for the last two years that number has been up around 25 or 30,” says Mike. “The interest is coming from all over the country and our open days are getting busier and busier.” The 2026 Open Day includes a farm tour and opportunities for people to learn all about the cadet programme and how it works.
