Marlborough: Baseline Group Marlborough T T Richard Loader REGIONAL DEVELOPMENT Known to the local Marlborough community as Anna the Planner, Anna Bensemman’s niche is resource management planning, but she says her industry is really about people, and meeting people’s needs. “In my industry, in my niche, in my level of expertise, it is the human component that drives me to help people get resource consent from councils. “People come to me with discussions around their needs, and we try and find solutions for them. It’s that concept around providing a good understanding of the client’s whole project and all the moving parts that go into it. “It’s not just my planning component — there’s surveying, engineering, the legal requirements, the development contributions – the bits that make up the whole of the project and explaining that in a package people can understand — and being human about it.” With 15 years industry experience and a compassion for people, Anna is the Director of Baseline Group – Marlborough. Based in Blenheim, Anna and her small team operate extensively across the Top of the South, the West Coast of the South Island, the lower North Island, and down to Central Otago, providing resource management planning expertise to a diverse client base for a diverse range of needs. From mums and dads taking on a house build, or a small-scale subdivision, or septic tank renewals or new systems, through to developers looking to re-zone and subdivide large areas of land, industrial clients needing air or land discharge — if a project needs a resource consent, Baseline Group Marlborough is there to help. “Being so close to the Marlborough Sounds we help with coastal projects such as boat sheds and jetties,” says Anna. “The thing about resource management planning, is that it is a Jack of all trades, and a master of planning only. You need to understand how engineering works, how surveying works, sometimes the effects of landscaping and geotechnical effects. “And you rely on a bunch of different experts to draw all of that together and make an overall assessment judgement as to what the environmental effects will be in the context of the planning framework it sits within.” The planning side of Resource Management does not live in isolation of any other discipline, and while the Marlborough team specialise in planning, the wider Baseline Group based in Christchurch acts as Marlborough’s big brother, particularly in regard to specialist resource. “The value that we provide to our client is a resource consent, with a full understanding of the planning requirements that enable de- “In my industry, in my niche, in my level of expertise, it is the human component that drives me to help people get resource consent from councils. velopment through to the completion of that development. “So, it’s getting a good understanding of the client’s whole project and that’s how the Christchurch aspect of the Marlborough business has been really useful. “As a planner you’re often the first port of call, but the client will require surveying, engineering, and we have the ability within the wider group to provide advice and expertise on all of that. “We also work really hard to deliver on the promises we make to our clients, particularly around costs and time frames. Delivering on promises is something we are particularly focused on.” High Performance Bespoke Architectural Services > RESIDENTIAL > ALTERATIONS > COMMERCIAL > EDUCATION > CULTURAL P 021 1443 422 E riki@palatchiearchitecture.co.nz W www.palatchiearchitecture.co.nz Complimentary design service.
