| 69 PRODUCTION Silver Fern Farms - Finegand Getting the right people in the right leadership role has been a focus at Finegand. Thermography is all about non-destructive preventative diagnosis of potential failures to the electrical and mechanical equipment used by industrial and commercial businesses. It is about identifying and resolving issues before they reach a fault scenario that would otherwise result in lost production time or ire — and that is where Thermal Imaging Services shines. With branches in Christchurch and Auckland, Thermal Imaging Services looks after a diverse range of clients throughout the country. “A lot of the routine/scheduled visits that we do are either six-monthly or quarterly,” says Managing Director Brad Muir. “Our three main business avenues are commercial buildings, production facilities of all kinds and we do a lot of powerline transmission work for various companies both from the ground and using drones. We also accompany the New Zealand naval leet during sea trials, looking for electrical and mechanical faults. Thermal Imaging Services uses top of the line FLIR cameras to look for tell-tale signs of component failure in either electrical or mechanical systems at production facilities. Undetected and unresolved those failures can lead to costly production downtimes, or in a worst-case scenario a destructive ire. The aim is to detect the potential for fault and provide the business with recommendations for remedial action. Preventing costly problems “It also pays for businesses to keep an eye on their point of power supply,” explains Brad. “All businesses are supplied power via transformer and they can often be an overlooked part of the preventive maintenance picture. Routine thermography of a transformer’s circulation and termination points can highlight faults before signi icant outages result.” In addition to handheld thermal imaging cameras, the company has invested in drone thermal imaging technology. Custom designed, the drone has high accuracy radiometric thermal capabilities with high detail visual zoom cameras for powerline transmission, solar array and roo ing inspections. Silver Fern Farms relationship with Thermal Imaging Services goes back to the early 2000s, engaging the company to thermally inspect the electrical distribution systems and the mechanical componentry of the critical parts in all their production facilities nationwide. Brad says Thermal Imaging Services success has been about building relationships and the desire to learn their clients’ plant, equipment and processes so that the best information can be given. “We’re there to be information providers and take pride in providing the most accurate and concise information to our clients, so that they can continue to do what they do best with full con idence in their plant and equipment.” PO Box 253, Kumeu Auckland, New Zealand brad@thermalimagingservices.net.nz 021 0231 5702 – North Island 021 373 532 – South Island Utilisingdataoutside thevisible spectrum for thebene it of our clients and their production facilities.
